IAB Europe is pleased to announce the election of Steffen Hubert, Associate Director & Sustainability Lead at ProSiebenSat.1, representing BVDW, as the new Chair, and Emanuela Recalcati, Head of Creative Solutions at GroupM Nexus, as the Vice-Chair of the Sustainability Standards Committee. The committee elected Steffen and Emanuela during its most recent meeting on 11th March 2025. In their newly appointed roles, they will lead the committee's efforts to reduce the energy consumption and emissions associated with digital advertising delivery, focusing on the industry's demand for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards.
The Sustainability Standards Committee is a multi-stakeholder group that unites industry participants to establish best practices and new standards for sustainable digital advertising. These initiatives aim to guide all industry members in minimising energy consumption and carbon emissions resulting from digital media usage. The committee's work includes developing practical and measurable guidelines to decarbonise digital media through key working groups focused on ESG Definitions & Business Guidance, ESG Methodology & Framework, and ESG Policy & Regulation.
Having served as Vice-Chair for the past two years, Steffen Hubert has played a pivotal role in shaping the committee’s direction. Reflecting on his appointment, Steffen said:
“After two years as Vice Chair of the Sustainability Standards Committee, it is a great pleasure and privilege for me to take over as Chairman for another two years. I’m eager to continue the started journey, working alongside all stakeholders to shape a more sustainable, and resilient future of the digital advertising industry. Sustainability is an ongoing commitment. While we’ve made significant progress on ecological issues, our work is far from over.”
Emanuela Recalcati also brings a wealth of experience in digital advertising, sustainable innovation, and global leadership to the role. Reflecting on her newly appointed role, she commented:
“I am truly honoured to join the IAB Europe Sustainability Standards Committee and contribute to the incredible work the team has already accomplished! I look forward to driving meaningful changes, education, and innovation on such a critical and impactful topic.”
Both Steffen and Emanuela are active members of the Sustainability Standards Committee. In their newly appointed leadership positions, they will drive the agenda and foster collaborations that enable all committee members to contribute their knowledge and expertise. Their combined experience and commitment to sustainability are expected to significantly advance the committee's mission to reduce the digital advertising industry's environmental impact.

Eight years ago, Steffen Johann Hubert joined Seven.One Media and thus the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, where he now works as Lead Sustainability. Prior to that, he worked in political communication at federal level and then spent several years as Head of Communication responsible for the media activities of various FMCG brands in the spirits industry. In 2024, Steffen was also appointed to the Board of Directors of IAB Europe – in addition to his previous Vice Chair responsibilities on the Sustainability Standards Committee. In his private life, he has also been active in environmental protection and nature conservation for over 20 years with a great passion for ornithology.

With 20+ years of industry experience, Emanuela is a forward-thinking leader committed to pushing boundaries and shaping a more innovative and sustainable future. In her role, she spearheads creative innovation across 20+ EMEA markets and leads the Sustainability Taskforce, fostering innovation in this critical space.
Before joining GroupM Nexus, Emanuela worked at Microsoft EMEA, where she developed strategies for Microsoft AdExchange and audience data products.
Originally from Milan, Emanuela now calls London home, where she lives with her husband, two children, and their brave Yorkshire terrier.
