Tom Rainer, Head of Growth at Debenhams, and Andreas Preuer, EMEA RVP at Mirakl Ads, sat down with Yara Daher, Retail Media Consultant at IAB Europe, to explain why Retail Media deserves to be treated as far more than a bonus revenue line, and how it can sit at the heart of a retailer's wider growth plans.
Using Debenhams' own journey as a case study, they shared what goes into launching and scaling a Retail Media offer that works, how technology and customer data fuel stronger results, and why commercial ambition should never come at the expense of a relevant, enjoyable shopping experience. They also unpacked how a marketplace model and Retail Media can feed one another, creating a flywheel that keeps growth profitable over the long run.

Joining John Still, Head of Content at ExchangeWire, was Stanislas Lajouanie, Vice President, Head of Brands and Commerce Media for Europe and Latin America at LiveRamp. Together, they examined what a mature Retail Media business actually looks like, and how retailers can get more value from their data whether a campaign runs onsite, offsite or in-store.
The pair covered how connecting, activating and measuring data underpins performance, the hurdles created by Europe's fragmented markets, and the areas where shared standards could make life easier for everyone.

Paul Dahill, Managing Director, Sales EMEA at Koddi, was joined by Irina Schmitz, Unit Lead Commerce & Retail at BVDW, to cut through the noise around agentic commerce: what the term actually means, where retailers and brands stand to gain the most, and how AI agents could reshape the way shoppers find, weigh up and buy products.
Their conversation looked at where AI can add fresh value along the shopping journey, the obstacles still to clear around technology, data, trust and consumer uptake, and what brands need to do to stay visible and influential as AI plays a bigger role. They also shared concrete steps companies can take right now to get ready for what's coming.
Hungry for more? Our Guide to AI in Retail & Commerce Media takes a closer look at how AI is being used across the industry, the opportunities it opens up, and the key considerations for retailers, brands and technology providers.

On 7th October, over 200 senior leaders from across Europe's Retail and Commerce Media ecosystem came together at Felix Meritis in Amsterdam for the sold-out second edition of IAB Europe's Retail Media Impact Summit, organised in collaboration with VIA.
Under the theme Beyond the Boom: The Next Chapter of Retail Media Growth, the Summit looked past the headline growth figures to ask what it will take to sustain it, with stronger measurement, greater transparency and real collaboration at the centre of the conversation.
