Brussels, 2nd June 2026 - A broad group of 45 companies from across the digital economy today published an open letter calling on EU policymakers to ensure sufficient scrutiny and consultation regarding proposed changes introduced through Articles 88a and 88b of the Digital Omnibus proposal.
The signatories express support for the European Commission’s broader objective of simplifying the EU regulatory framework and strengthening Europe’s competitiveness through a more coherent and innovation-friendly digital rulebook. At the same time, they raise concerns that Articles 88a & 88b, currently under discussion, could increase legal uncertainty, technical complexity and introduce economic disruption across the digital ecosystem, going against the objective of simplification.
The signatories call on the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the EU to ensure that adequate time is afforded for impact assessment, stakeholder consultation and technical evaluation before moving forward with measures of such significant operational and market impact.
