[Webinar Recording] The Post Third-Party Cookie Era: 2022 in Review & What to Expect for 2023
Nov 30,2022Marie-Clare Puffett Uncategorized
Earlier this year Google announced a two-year delay in its phasing out of third-party cookies, with the new deadline set for 2024. As we come to the end of 2022, how prepared do companies feel they are for this new era and what progress has been made? And as we prepare to enter a new year, what’s next as we head towards a cookieless world?
In this webinar, experts from IAB Europe’s Programmatic Trading Committee took a look back to assess the cookie conversation in 2022 and the advances that have been made, and explored what we can expect over the next twelve months.

Google provided an Update on the Privacy Sandbox in the webinar. Please see below for further resources on this:
- Expanded Testing in 2023: The Privacy Sandbox team recently published this blog post outlining plans for expanded testing in 2023, with the first half of the year focused mainly on individual testers optimizing their implementations and generating early, directional utility learnings. In the second half of 2023, once the APIs are launched to all Chrome users, we expect scaled, combined testing to meaningfully measure results for publishers and advertisers.
- CMA Proposal for Quantitative Testing: Chrome’s staged plan aligns with the quantitative testing framework recently proposed by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority. The CMA offers initial thinking on methodologies and approaches to quantitative trials, based on observing real-world outcomes where the Privacy Sandbox changes are tested on a subset of market participants. The CMA has invited responses by December 1, 2022.
- Industry Guidance: As we move from the current functional testing stage, to utility testing in 2023, the Privacy Sandbox team will build on our technical documentation with more industry-focused guidance on how the Privacy Sandbox technologies and other privacy-safe signals can support advertising use cases.
- Tester Lists: The Privacy Sandbox team has created public GitHub pages where testers can identify themselves and link to information about their testing plans and learnings. Here are the tester lists for Topics, FLEDGE, Attribution Reporting. Please note, we do not expect these pages to reflect all ecosystem testing activity since sharing is strongly encouraged but voluntary. Instructions are included on the pages.
